Make this simple reusable spelling book to engage early readers.

This project is a great first speller.  Students can flip through to make simple words making learning to read and spell fun.  By laminating the pages, the letters can be traced using a dry erase marker or a wax crayon.  Laminated pages easily wipe clean and can be used over and over again.  For more advanced students the spelling book could expand to include more letters and columns could be added for longer word combinations.

Spelling Book for First Time Spellers

How to make it:

  1. Print out your alphabet letters.  You can download our template or create your own.
  2. Laminate the spelling book alphabet pages.
  3. Cut cardstock for front and back covers that measure 7″ x 4″.  We added some stickers and the “I can spell” title to the front of the cover page.
  4. Laminate the spelling book front and back covers using heavier weight laminator pouches for more stability.
  5. Trim all laminated letters.  Ours are business card size 2″ x 3 1/2″.
  6. Stack the letters so you have two stacks of consonants and one stack of vowels.
  7. Punch two holes at the top of each stack.  Match these to covers and punch holes for both covers.
  8. Use book rings to bind.  We added some really fun ribbons and trims to the rings for embellishments.
